One whole year of community action, led by young people for their communities.
From beach cleans and community clean ups to community dinners and workshops, we’ve witnessed the power of youth-led social action through our Inspire 2022 Programme. Over the past year young people from across the UK have co-designed, pitched and delivered a range of inspiring and engaging events to support their local communities to lead positive change.
We want to congratulate all the young people who have made Inspire 2022 a success so far, they have been; tackling homelessness, environmental issues, campaigning for mental health access, creating safe LGBTQ+ spaces, advocating for refugee and asylum support, campaigning for women’s rights, championing inclusion and disability awareness. All to create healthier and happier communities.
If this has Inspired you to get involved, please see our map of hubs and projects to find a social action event you can support in your community.

Supported by Youth Scotland and Inspired by World Ocean Day, Ochil Youth’s Inspire team planned and ran a brilliant community litter pick. Working in collaboration with Clakmanshire Council Park Rangers and Keep Scotland Beautiful, they trained and supported 25 volunteers to come and help clear away bags of rubbish at the woodlands by Lornshill Academy. The Inspire team provided a delicious pizza picnic, and designed and created a reusable water bottle for all the community volunteers to take home.
Supported by Youth Action Northern Ireland and Inspired by International Women’s Day, The Rainbow Factory’s Inspire team planned a workshop. The group brokered partnerships with Fylde Coast International Women’s day and ran a conference in Blackpool. The conference was a huge success and the Inspire team facilitated workshops to over 100 delegates focusing on Women’s rights and empowerment.
Supported by Youth Cymru and Inspired by Fairtrade Fortnight, The Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Inspire team planned and delivered their ‘better together’ community event. This brought together local decision makers and community members to discuss and highlight the challenges facing asylum seekers at foodbanks.
Supported by UK Youth and Inspired by Children’s Mental Health Week, Fox Hollies Forum’s Inspire team delivered a community event focused on mental health. Working in partnership with Box Clever mentoring, they delivered a series of workshops and activities to over 70 community members, encouraging them to access and reach out to local support organisations.

Taking inspiration from the tenth anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Inspire 2022 is youth-led events-based social action programme which will use national events as a springboard for young people to design positive activities for their own communities, bridging community divides and giving young people a voice in a year of national celebration. It will be delivered by UK Youth in partnership with British Red Cross, Youth Action Northern Ireland, Youth Cymru, Youth Scotland and regional youth organisations who support young people in their local communities. It is funded by £1.2m from Spirit of 2012 and £500,000 from the #iwill Fund (a joint investment between The National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport), and designed in partnership with Local Trust.
We LOVED the Red Jumper Awards! Thanks to our young people for organising the event. ❤️ #inspire2022 #standwithyou #fundedbyspirit #fyp
