Significant cuts to vital services over the last 15 years have severely impacted young people and the youth work sector. Youth work jobs have a 20% vacancy rate, and the number of students pursuing youth work has dropped by 90%. Without a national campaign to attract new, strong, and diverse leaders, youth work support for young people is at risk due to a shortage of youth workers.
Youth First is a two-year accelerated leadership development programme which incorporates on-the-job training through 2 placements; accelerated blended learning in Youth Work Principles and Practice (with access to PG Dip Youth Work) and Systems Leadership and Operational Excellence.
The programme includes a paid salary, coaching support and access to alumni network.

Aim
To transform the pipeline, diversity and calibre of leaders in the youth sector, in order to safeguard the development and wellbeing of millions of young people across the country.
Target Audience
Predominantly new to the youth sector workforce with drive, passion and commitment to create long term transformational change.
Programme

We’re planning to launch in 2025.
Delivery Model
Delivered in collaboration with a range of partners including; university
validation partner, training experts and cross-sector employers.
UK Youth has partnered with OnSide Youth Zones, Blenheim Chalcot, Clore Social Leadership and the University of Northampton to create and deliver the new programme.
