Adventures Away from Home (AAfH) is a national programme that gives more young people the chance to take part in high quality residential experiences. For many, it is their first time staying away from home, exploring the outdoors, and building independence in a safe and supportive environment.
The programme is designed to remove barriers to access. By working with schools, youth organisations, and outdoor centres, AAfH makes residentials affordable and inclusive, so every young person has the chance to benefit. Activities are guided by UK Youth’s Experience, Learn, Develop (ELD) Framework, ensuring that time spent outdoors supports personal growth, social development, and education.
Since inception, this £9m investment by the Government has provided fully-funded outdoor learning experiences for thousands of young people in England. Year four of the fund recently launched, by March 2026 an additional 30,000 young people will have experienced life changing outdoor learning opportunities through AAfH.
Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and National Gas, Adventures Away from Home helps thousands of young people each year gain confidence, improve wellbeing, and form lasting connections with peers and the natural environment.
UK Youth works with a national network of outdoor centres to deliver Adventures Away from Home. As a partner provider, your centre can access funding that helps more young people take part in high-quality residentials and day experiences.
We are looking for centres that share our commitment to inclusion, safety, and quality. Providers must be able to deliver programmes guided by our Experience, Learn, Develop (ELD) Framework and meet agreed standards for safeguarding, accessibility, and impact measurement.
Applications are managed directly by UK Youth. Centres interested in becoming a partner provider can apply online or contact our Outdoor Learning team for more information.
