Yesterday whilst I was visiting the UK Youth office in London for the day to plan our next UK Youth Voice meeting I heard about Blue Monday, so here I am writing to explain it to people who may not know.
What is Blue Monday??
Blue Monday is a name given to a day in January (typically the third Monday of the month) claimed to be the most depressing day of the year.
Some of my friends were struggling, others having down days. I just didn’t see it until I asked them (which I’m glad I did). I always make sure to check my friends at least once a week to see how they are and they know I’m always a message away. So message a friend asking how they are feeling to let them know your still there even though you may not talk that often. It makes a massive difference to receive a nice message and puts a smile on their face when they see your name.
Yesterday afternoon came around and I received some bad news. From then it just started piling up. Sitting on the train on the way home from UK Youth in London made me realise maybe Blue Monday was actually true. I’ve been really happy for a few weeks then today it hits me like a ton of bricks.
I was told that Blue Monday is meant to be the day of the year people are the most depressed. At first I didn’t even want to believe it could be true so I thought nothing of it. Then it hit me that I might not have felt any different at first but what about others.
Yesterday might have been Blue Monday but today is True Tuesday.
So as a promise to yourself let everything bad that happened today fade away and put it out of your memory. Make Tuesday all about you, be happy and even try and manage to say something positive about yourself. Don’t let some random day control the light that’s waiting to shine inside you.
Blue Monday may be here now but it’s only for 1 day. You are here for much longer than that. Make today True Tuesday where you stay true to yourself!
