Following the announcement of £80m new funding for the youth sector, Anna Smee, CEO of UK Youth said:

"This new £80m investment in the youth sector is fantastic news for thousands of young people across the country and a culmination of nearly 18 months work between the Minister of Civil Society and UK Youth, among other leading youth charities. We're proud to have played a key role in shaping the £40m Youth Investment Fund as well as supporting Step Up to Serve to secure £40m funding for Youth Social Action. It's great to see the Office for Civil Society take action and heed our advice that long term core funding is crucial for grassroots youth organisations that are reeling from local authority cuts. The Youth Investment Fund will provide the support required for them to transition to new funding models in order to maintain services for the most hard-to-reach young people. This joint initiative between the Government and the Big Lottery Fund is a positive step and we hope it will inspire other funders to support many more young people, by giving them a safe place to go, positive role models and a chance to develop vital life skills."
