Participation Inclusion and Achievement Project

Participation, Inclusion and Achievement Project

This project aimed to build worker capacity and facilitate targeted groups of young people such as those who are refugees, young mothers, young fathers and disabled young people to develop new and innovative programmes to assist in meeting their particular needs. The young people who were part of our Participation, Inlcusion and Achievement (PIA) Project worked to creating new opportunities and improve services for other young people.

The six pilot groups each focused on the following areas:

  1. Young People Participating in Decision Making
  2. Disabled and non Disabled Young People Working Together
  3. Young People Creating Better Places to Live
  4. Young Mothers Building Independence
  5. Young Men Understanding Fatherhood
  6. Young Refugees Gaining Life Skills

Some 240 young participants took part in local area groups across England and the young people involved focused on topics relevant to them such as neighbourhood renewal, governance, influencing services to become inclusive, financial literacy, parenting and employment skills. A wide range of activities were planned and trialed to achieve the objectives and were then collated in a toolkit for each of the above six areas.

The young people’s learning was also accredited through schemes such as UK Youths Youth Achievement Awards and Young Mothers Learning OCN.

This successful project culminated in a prestigious launch of the six new toolkits generated in Westminster in October 2007. The toolkits are now available to purchase either as a set or individually. To find out more email Becky on becky@ukyouth.org
