Developing Effective Group Work
with Young Mothers
This course is aimed at workers who are new to or have limited group work experience and want to develop and undertake structured group work with young mothers and young mothers-to-be.
We will explore the opportunities and challenges involved in developing work with young mothers in the context of government agendas. The course will cover the basic elements of planning and a group learning programme based on the interests and needs of young mothers, with the aim of building their confidence and self-esteem.
We will consider the potential for developing partnership work with other agencies to support young mothers’ learning. We will also introduce ways of recording and accrediting young mothers’ learning outcomes.
Facilitator: Tracy Hind is a freelance youth & community development consultant and trainer with 18 years’ experience in the youth work sector, including running young mothers projects and researching the needs of teenage mothers.Programme.
A sandwich lunch will be provided.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this training, participants will have:
- Explored the opportunities and challenges in working with young mothers in the context of current government agendas
- Understood what needs to be put in place to begin to plan a group work programme
- Understood the key elements of a planning a quality programme to meet the needs and interests of young mothers
- Considered a range of approaches and activities to build the confidence and self-esteem of young mothers
- Considered the usefulness and potential for partnership work in their area
- Been introduced to ways of recording and accrediting the achievements of young mothers in a group learning context
