Equalities Awareness for Practitioners working with Young People

Equalities Awareness for Practitioners working with Young People

Working with young people means promoting their healthy transitions to adulthood.Barriers to healthy transitions include prejudice and discrimination that some young people face. As professionals how well do we understand this? How confident do we feel about applying our knowledge? Equalities can sometimes feel like a minefield, or a frustrating tick-boxing exercise that lacks heart and commitment. Language, policy and legal requirements change and we can sometimes find it hard to keep up.

  • Do you feel you need a deeper understanding of what equalities means?
  • Do you understand the language and concepts of equality and diversity?
  • Do you understand the legal requirements to challenge discrimination and actively promote equality and diversity in your work with young people?
  • Would you appreciate an opportunity to talk openly about how we can deepen our understanding of, and commitment to, practicing equalities in action?
