Challenging discrimination with young people

Challenging Discrimination with Young People

Practitioners working with young people often need support and fresh ideas about how to challenge discrimination and promote positive engagement with equality among young people. We also need a language and approach that is accessible and realistic for the young people we work with. This one day course explores approaches to challenging prejudice and discriminatory behaviour and attitudes among young people. It is a requisite for the course that you contribute experiences from your own current practice and therefore this course is aimed at workers currently working face-to-face with young people in non-formal settings.

Who would benefit from this course?

Youth workers and other professionals working in non-formal education with young people who want to develop their understanding and skills and work more confidently with young people in terms of challenging discriminatory language and behaviour. This is an introductory level course and requires current practice in working directly with young people.

Facilitator: Tracy Hind is a freelance youth & community development consultant and trainer with 20 years’ experience working in both statutory and voluntary sector settings. She is an Associate Consultant of UK Youth and WSA Community Consultants and an Associate Tutor at Sussex University where she teaches on social exclusion, equal opportunities and reflective practice.
