Youth Achievement Awards Materials

Every young person who takes part in the Youth Challenges and Youth Achievement Awards programme will need to be allocated a booklet for recording his or her achievements.

These booklets are available to order from UK Youth and include the costs of external moderation (where relevant) and a certificate on successful completion of the Award.

The booklets are available in a range of other accessible formats for young people with specific needs and in languages other than English.

There are a number of resources that can be downloaded from the YAA Resources section of the website such as Sample Bronze and Silver Challenges, Challenge Certificates and the Welcoming Achievement Project Toolkit.

Online Youth Achievement Award Booklets

The Online Youth Achievement Award Booklets are now available. The online booklets are purchased in the same way as all other Youth Achievement Awards Award booklets online. On receipt of your order, you will receive an online booklet instruction sheet. By following the instructions on the sheet, young people are able to register on the website and choose their own username and password. The booklet is completed online and at the end of the Award, it must be printed out and signed in the relevant places. It is then submitted along with the rest of the young person’s portfolio for moderation. If you have any queries regarding the Online Booklets, please contact Sara Kirk.

Take Up The Challenge

Take Up The Challenge

What is Take Up The Challenge?

Take Up The Challenge is an A5 pocket sized self-contained Youth Achievement Award (YAA) Challenge. It can be used as a first challenge at levels Bronze, Silver and Gold and aims to encourage more young people to take that first step into YAA.

Young people choose and complete a Challenge, sticking their evidence directly into the book, and involving another young person in the review process. The completed booklet is reviewed by the YAA worker and, providing it meets all the usual requirements for YAA, the young person is issued with a Challenge certificate and an invitation to join an Award Group and go on to complete the whole YAA. The completed Take Up The Challenge slots into the young person’s portfolio as their first Challenge.

Take Up The Challenge can be used as a first YAA Challenge only.

Why have we produced it?

We appreciate that making the first step into YAA is often the hardest. It can be difficult to engage a young person in the Awards when they don’t really grasp what is involved. Take Up The Challenge might suit young people who…

- Don’t see how what they’re doing can count towards a Challenge and think it’s going to be lots of work

- Is a young volunteer intending to go off on a placement immediately

- Want to be involved in the programme but aren’t sure what level to begin at

- Might be put off by the sight of a whole YAA booklet

- Are not intending to complete a whole YAA but want to be involved in a nationally recognised programme at some level (for example because they only plan to be involved in the short term)

…..And Take Up The Challenge might suit you too if you sometimes find yourself hesitating when handing out YAA booklets to young people who may not be quite sure if they’re going to commit to a full Award!

In other words there are many reasons why a young person might need help taking that first step into YAA. In response to your feedback, UK Youth has created this support tool for workers. We hope that this makes the process of engaging a young person in the YAA programme easier – both for the young person and for the Award Group Worker.
