Youth Achievement Awards National Conference
UK Youth’s Youth Achievement Awards National Conference took place on Tuesday 18th November 2008 to Wednesday 19th November 2008 at the Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre in Manchester. The objective of the conference was to focus on Accreditation and the Youth Achievement Awards within Informal and Non-formal Education. The target audience for the conference was practitioners, development officers and managers involved in delivering accreditation opportunities to the young people within their network.
The conference was attended by 51 delegates and 7 staff. There was an option to attend a pre-conference Introduction to Youth Challenges and Youth Achievement Awards training day on Monday 17th September 2008 - this was attended by 14 delegates. During the plenary session, Dr Tony Chapman and his colleagues from the Social Futures Institute gave a presentation on the research project that they are currently working on which focuses on ‘The Impact of UK Youth’s Youth Achievement Awards upon young people’s perceptions of positive life choices’. Honor Wilson-Fletcher from the National Year of Reading gave a presentation on ‘Reading for your Rights’ and spoke about how reading can be used to change young people lives.

Launch of the Junior Achievement Awards

The Launch of the Junior Achievement Award took place on Wednesday 10th September 2008 at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London and Thursday 18th September 2008 at Partnership for Learning in Liverpool.
These one day conferences were held to launch the new award and highlight its benefits, explore progression links to the Youth Challenges and Youth Achievement Awards and provide a forum for those involved in the pilot stage to talk about their successes.
These launch events were are aimed at workers and managers from a range of settings who are involved in supporting children to develop personal and social skills, such as: primary schools, junior youth groups, play work settings, breakfast and homework clubs, residential centres, social services, sports clubs, performing arts groups, faith groups, holiday schemes etc.

Young People and Alcohol National Conference
UK Youth held a national conference on Thursday 21st June 2007 at the MIC Hotel and Conference Centre in London to showcase a non-formal approach to developing alcohol education work with young people. It was aimed at anyone who was looking to develop, and potentially accredit, their alcohol education work with young people. The conference was attended by a total of 130 delegates, facilitators and staff.
At the conference, we launched the Drinkaware Challenges, a project which has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund to enable UK Youth and the Drinkaware Trust to provide youth workers with the resources and support to help young people make informed decisions about alcohol.
Delegates had the opportunity to hear a range of key note speakers, attend practical workshops on the theme and took away a copy of the new Drinkaware Challenges Resource, a toolkit of sample YAA challenges and targets as well as activities and guidance.
