Training Bursary for the First Gear Programme
In partnership with Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, UK Youth are able to offer selected groups the opportunity to access funding to support workers to become qualified operators of UK Youth’s First Gear Vehicle Education Programme. The funding is available from April 2007 to March 2008, during which time, we hope to enable an additional 100 young people from all over the UK to access the First Gear programme and receive vehicle and road safety education.
The Rees Jeffreys Fund has enabled UK Youth to offer organisations either:
- Free training for up to 2 workers attending a multi-agency Introduction to First Gear Training event.
- £100 discount on the cost of in-house Introduction to First Gear training (maximum of 6 workers)
- Training packs and certificates for all those workers who attend training
We are looking to target young people from the following groups:
- Young people with disabilities;
- Young mothers;
- Young Offenders;
- Young people with literacy and numeracy difficulties.
Groups selected will be required to ensure that:
- Groups who access this opportunity are registered to run the First Gear Programme. The annual license costs £200 + VAT
- Workers supporting the young people through the First Gear programme have received introductory training and are able to support the young people through the programme adequately.
- You produce short case studies from at least 10% of the young people involved in the First Gear programme detailing their experiences with the First Gear programme and beyond their completion
We hope that you will see this unique opportunity to offer youth and community workers training bursaries to deliver the First Gear programme. If you have any further questions relating to the bursary or the First Gear programme, please contact Charmaine Simpson. To apply for the busary, please download and complete the Expression of Interest form below and return to Charmaine Simpson.
