Any organisations registering to run the First Gear and On Two Wheels programme for the first time will need to ensure that the staff involved in the direct support and internal assessment of the First Gear and On Two Wheels programmes have been trained by UK Youth. This is a compulsory requirement.
Training can be arranged through UK Youth on either an in-house basis, for a maximum of 12 workers, or individual places can be bought on multi-agency training days, which are run on a regular basis across the country. By the end of the training days, participants will have:
- Gained an understanding of the UK Youth’s First Gear and On Two Wheels programme and explore its potential for use in a variety of education settings;
- Understood the process of how to set up and deliver UK Youth’s First Gear and On Two Wheels programme;
- Explored some of the different possibilities for delivery;
- Outline the possibilities for accrediting First Gear and On Two Wheels.
- Identify possible funding opportunities for road user education;
- Increased their knowledge and understanding of techniques to use in their work in managing and delivering road user education;
- Completed some of the ‘In The Mind’ activities;
- Had an opportunity to share their experience with fellow participants and build potential links for the future;
The calendar of multi-agency training days can be found in the Training Calendar section on the UK Youth website.
