UK Youth response to Government’s 10 year plan for children and young people

UK Youth welcomes the vision set out in the government’s new 10 year plan for children and young people. We welcome the emphasis the report gives to the provision of structured positive activities for young people and particularly the need to ensure that young people gain the social and emotional skills that such experiences can provide.

UK Youth has pioneered this approach via its extremely successful Youth Achievement Awards programme and our social skills curriculum that has already enabled thousands of young people to develop the social skills and qualifications necessary to take control of their lives and move from marginalisation into the mainstream of life.

"As well as the pledge that the strategy makes to invest in new places to go we would like to see the creation of an endowment fund to provide voluntary sector youth work organisations and the thousands of volunteers within this sector with a sustained funding platform from which they can play a full part working with local authorities in the provision for the youth offer and the delivery of extended services to children and young people working in partnership with schools.

Only with the full engagement of the voluntary sector can this bold and imaginative vision be achieved to the benefit of every child."John Bateman OBE, Chief Executive, UK Youth
