UK Youth launches Junior Youth Achievement Award

Leading Youth Work charity, UK Youth announces the official launch of the Junior Achievement Awards, aimed at children aged 7 -11 years. Based on UK Youth’s Youth Achievement Awards, this new award uses a peer education approach to helping children plan and review learning gained in an almost limitless range of activities that interest and motivate them.

The official launch takes place on Wednesday 10th of September 2008 at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London and Thursday 18th of September 2008 at Partnership for Learning, Liverpool. UK Youth are also hosting the Youth Achievement Network Conference on Tuesday 18th - Wednesday 19th November 2008, Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre, Manchester.

The award is designed to develop a range of personal and social skills, including:

  • Self confidence and self esteem
  • Communication
  • Giving and receiving constructive criticism
  • Taking responsibility
  • Planning and reviewing their own learning

The Junior Achievement Awards gives some children a sense of pride and achievement in actually completing tasks” Brenda Blenkinsop, 7KS/Caldicotes Primary School

“This award has reached the younger age group of our target area; it has built confidence and self-esteem. It has worked well in areas of low achievement and low self-esteem, giving young people recognition of what they can achieve.” Margaret Pepper, Bilsthorpe Youth Centre Under 14’s team

This event will launch the new award and highlight its benefits, explore progression links to the Youth Challenges and Youth Achievement Awards and provide a forum for some of the people involved in the pilot stage to talk about their successes.
