Film for Youth – Special London Screening

Following the success of the Premiere Showcase event for Film for Youth -- hosted by film director Guy Ritchie -- at the Belfast Waterfront Hall earlier this year, UK Youth will be holding a London screening event on Saturday 11th November hosted by Canary Wharf Group at the East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf.

"Film for Youth is giving young people across the UK the chance to get their voices heard and their work seen." - Guy Ritchie, Film Director

During the morning of the 11th, young film-makers will be taking part in the Lord Mayor's Show with a joint Film for Youth and Canary Wharf Group float involving star cars from famous films. These feature replica cars from ‘Back to the Future’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Starsky & Hutch’ and the Aston Martin DB5 as featured in several James Bond films including Thunderball, Golden Eye and the upcoming release Casino Royale.

At 4.00pm a selection of short films from Film for Youth will be screened at East Wintergarden. Young film-makers and local young people interested in participating in next year’s festival will be invited to attend the screening.

“Taking part in the previous competition with UK Youth and Guy has made a huge difference to me and my film career as well as enabling me to find funding for new projects.”– Monshur Alam, young film-maker, previous student of Tower Hamlets Summer University, member of 2006 Film for Youth Judging Panel

The screening will celebrate the success of young people participating in Film for Youth and showcase their work. The films cover a wide range of topics and genres - from comedy, documentary, animation and drama - examining diverse issues including dealing with autism, homelessness, crime, bullying, achieving success and the influence of reality TV.

"UK Youth is delighted to have the opportunity to stage a London Screening event for Film for Youth with the support of Canary Wharf Group. We want to celebrate the success of all the young people who took part in the festival this year and to encourage young people, new to the festival, to get involved next year."

The Film for Youth festival -- which will promote the films online and at screenings around the UK amongst other distribution channels -- provides young people with the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence, gain a Youth Achievement Award and have their voices heard.
