Big Trouble in Little Britain - Young Voices Speak Out
Youth-led conference – 25th to 27th July on issues including knife and gun crime, tackling drugs, how young people are represented in the media
Voice is a youth led organisation within leading youth work charity UK Youth that is dedicated to giving 16-25 year olds a voice. Voice is in charge of its own finances, meetings, and organisational structure. The highlight of the Voice year is the Annual Conference which is held at Avon Tyrrell Activities Centre – UK Youth’s headquarters in the New Forest,on 25th – 27th July.
UK Youth Voice is the voice of young people and will be using the conference as an opportunity to focus on resolutions made throughout the year.
They include:
- Knife and Gun Crime – the group will be discussing the effects of “Bullets & Blades” and ways to tackle the problem of youth violence.
- Tackling Drugs – there will be a workshop which will challenge participants’ thoughts, beliefs and attitude towards drugs.
- Youth Housing – this workshop is a window into the current issues surrounding young people’s housing within the UK.
- Youth Representation in the Media – the group will have the opportunity to express whether they think young people are portrayed accurately by the media and take part in media skills workshops.
The Voice Panel is made up of young people from the regions across England, the Channel Islands, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Voice is a key part of UK Youth’s network and is seen as a model of good practice in the field of youth participation.
The Annual Conference gives a platform to young people to express their views and formulate their opinions it also enables participants to make changes to their lives and communities.

The conference gives a great opportunity to a group of people who are too rarely heard. It also helps participants on a personal basis by increasing their confidence through being involved in decision making, meeting new and influential people, travelling to new places and being involved in innovative projects.
