HUV supports young people’s right to have their voices heard within their communities – a short report is now. Using media and campaign activities HUV has worked alongside young people to build skills and confidence to enable them speak up to shape the services that they access.
Network building
The project has built up a network of youth-led campaigning groups, via its website and social networks. Representatives of 15 groups from around the country have been closely involved in the planning and development of HUV, through their participation in the project’s Steering Group, which has met four times a year throughout the project’s life.
As well as ensuring young people’s input into the project’s priorities, Steering Group meetings provide opportunities for young people to support each other and develop their campaigning skills.
Campaign resource
The project has published the Campaign for Change Toolkit, based on the experience of young campaigners around the country. The Toolkit contains information sheets, session plans and activity ideas, providing workers and young leaders with everything they need to plan, run, review and accredit campaign activities.
Wider recognition
HUV initiated the Young Campaigners Awards as a means of recognising and celebrating young people’s campaign achievements. There were over 120 entries for the eight categories of the Awards, which included ‘Best local campaign’; ‘Biggest impact campaign’; ‘Most creative campaign’; and ‘Most youth-led initiative’. The Awards were presented by UK Youth’s Royal patron, HRH The Princess Royal at a special reception, held in St James’ Palace in November 2011.
