Homework Clubs provide space, desks, equipment, and access to computers, in order to encourage young people to prioritise their homework. They also provide a community setting that brings young people together informally to support and encourage each other.
Marie talks about her first session at a new venue, Knights Youth Centre (KYC) in south London: “The young people were telling me what they wanted. I find it inspiring that young people are enjoying comparing what they know about science. We even have a competition running –next week whoever can name the most elements from the periodic table will win a prize! Okay. so it means a little extra work from me to prepare, but if they are engaging and happy and making the choice that that is what they want to do, then to me it will be worth it.
“A big shout out and ‘Thank you’ to the staff and young people at KYC for making me feel welcome and like part of the team. Just goes to show, education and recreation can go hand in hand, and I feel proud to be working with you all.”
