This is an innovative peer education project designed to build the financial knowledge and confidence of up to 5,000 young people, and equip them with the skills to share this information with their peer group.
We hope to reach 100,000 young people (aged 16-25) over the next three years who currently are or have been at risk of becoming excluded from mainstream education, employment or training through this model of formal and informal peer education.
UK Youth are the leading partner for the training element of this project. Training is offered to any worker or volunteer who would like to become a Peer Education Support Worker and support and train young people to become peer educators (Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’). It is a comprehensive two day training programme which will provide you with all the knowledge and skills you need to be able to fulfil this role. This is an excellent opportunity for you to receive free training and support young people and their friends in improving their financial capability.
After training Support Workers recruit and train around 10 young people to become a Barclays Money Skills ‘champion’. After a 16 hour training programme the ‘champions’ are equipped with a lot of financial knowledge and the skills to be able to pass this knowledge on to their peers. The Support Worker provides the ‘champions’ with support to allow them to deliver effective peer education.
